Reviewing K-5 Universal Reading Instruction

    • Audience This training is designed for schools teams that include K-5 grade level teachers, reading instructors/specialists, literacy coaches, special educators, instructional leaders, and building administrators. Registration will be capped at 50 participants. A school team must be accompanied by a school leader/principal School teams of three or more are required to attend all three days of the training. Outcomes Understand the need for a strong systemic foundation built upon common beliefs on reading instruction and the Common Core State Standards. Review and outline the five components from the National Reading Panel and other instructional components: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, instructional time, instructional grouping, and universal classroom environment Understand the effectiveness of systemic best practice in universal reading instruction. Investigate and discuss high quality systemic universal reading instruction as it relates to the WI-RtI framework. Action Plan to improve your school’s universal level reading instruction K-5. Preparation Participants should bring documentation of their current reading programs, practices, and strategies used to deliver K-5 universal reading instruction. Cost $150 per person. Fee covers all three days of training and materials. A light breakfast, lunch, and snack each day is also provided. Texts will be provided.
